HOKUTO SUMERAGI [ spoiler-free profile ]
+++++++++++

>> THE DRAMA QUEEN
The Sumeragi twins may seem like two peas in a pod, but Hokuto's bold personality speaks for itself and shows how unique she really is. Far from being a Subaru clone, Hokuto is such that if the twins were standing side by side, you could still tell them apart. Where Subaru is shy and sensitive, Hokuto is bubbly, outgoing and won't hesitate to speak her mind. Not only is she good-natured, Hokuto is always cheerful and ready to greet people with a smile. She's very protective of Subaru and sometimes acts like a mother figure to him, scolding him for his shortcomings and even going as far as to play matchmaker. Hokuto is unaware of Seishirou's darker side, and decided from the moment they met that he would be perfect for Subaru. Her sense of humor allows her to tell wonderful jokes and tease Subaru and Seishirou unabashed. If the mood is not right, you can count on Hokuto to change all that.

>> THE STAR
Hokuto's genki-ness and outstanding personality is probably what makes her one of CLAMP's most popular female characters. Among all the characters (which there aren't very many of), she is the most extrovert, like a brilliant ray of light shining through the clouds. She's also good at deafening people with her yell, which has earned her the reputation of being an "ultimate yelling machine". She is twisted, but in a good way, and is the sort of person who will brighten up your day if it isn't sunny enough already. As a descendant of the Sumeragi clan, Hokuto is not without her serious moments. Her sense of justice and feminine instinct often compels her to right every wrong in desperate situations. In the chapter "Annex: Smile", Hokuto simply couldn't ignore a girl being chased by a gang of men and barged in to save the day. When others are in trouble, Hokuto will come to the rescue and if they're feeling down, she's always there to listen to their problems. But most of the time, Hokuto is über-hyper and just downright insane.

>> THE SISTER
Hokuto may enjoy a comfortable lifestyle and come from a powerful line of onmyoujis, but none of this has gone to her head. She is as down to earth as ordinary girls and not arrogant or spoilt in the least. As a matter of fact, Hokuto is a lot like Subaru - warm, caring and receptive. She may appear overbearing and like to boss people around at times, but Hokuto means well and will never take people for granted. As her name suggests (Hokuto means "north star"), Hokuto is Subaru's guiding star and treats him with nothing but affection and sisterly love, as well as looking out for Subaru and helping him grow up emotionally. She is always urging her little brother to dress nice and eat well, and whole-heartedly tries to get him together with Seishirou. Basically, Hokuto is basically a mother figure as well as a sister to Subaru. She also does everything around the house from cleaning up to cooking dinner. =D

>> THE FRIEND
If you ever need help or some friendly advice, someone like Hokuto would be good to turn to. Like Subaru, Hokuto has a more serious side to her which is not revealed unless the situation demands it. When the going gets tough, she leaves no one behind. As mentioned earlier, Hokuto is not afraid to speak her mind and does not tolerate any form of injustice or cruelty. She especially opposes chauvinism, and hates it when men treat women badly. She came to a girl's rescue in "Annex: Smile" because it would've been against her moral code to ignore someone so helpless. The girl, who is a gaijin (foreigner) in Japan, was being pursued by the police for an unknown reason. She saw herself as an outsider, but Hokuto easily befriended her and reassured her that she shouldn't be treatedly unfairly regardless of the circumstances. Her basic belief is that it is natural for all humans to help one another when they are in trouble. She made her feelings clear on the issue, and will speak without reservations against anything she sees to be unjust.

>> THE GLAMOUR GIRL
Love and friendship are the most important things to her, but she's also a material girl who likes to splash her cash. Her wardrobe is up to date and filled with colorful, exotic costumes, most of which were created by herself. Her crazy outfits are actually in line with Japanese street fashion, which boasts flamboyance and exquisite designs. Her fashion-consciousness obviously rubs off on Subaru, who dresses very similarly to her, so don't expect anything less from Hokuto than a princess costume or a cute Chinese dress. Even her casual wear has to match and include a spot of pink. With her short hair and sideburns, you could easily mistake Hokuto for a boy, but she takes pleasure in nothing but dressing up and looking gorgeous and glamorous as most girls would like. The clothes she wears make a statement, and it's no wonder that even Seishirou is often 'shocked' by her wild behaviour.

>> THE MAGICIAN
Hokuto loves being the center of attention and sharing her happiness with others. Even though Subaru and Seishirou take center stage nine times out of ten, Hokuto is there to provide the comic relief when you need it. She is overtaken by a mile when it comes to knowing the art of onmyoujitsu, but Hokuto does know a useful spell or two, and despite not being a proper onmyouji like Subaru, she still manages to cast one of the most powerful spell in the story that changed Subaru and Seishirou's life forever when it took effect. Before Seishirou killed her, Hokuto cast a "mirror spell" on him, meaning that if he ever tries to kill Subaru in the same way that he has killed her, he will die instead. Hokuto never wanted anything to come between Seishirou and her brother, for she deeply believes in her heart that they deserve a chance at love.

>> THE ROMANCE
Hokuto is hardly known for fawning over cute boys and she has a habit of berating men for taking advantage of women, but she adores Seishirou for being a gentleman and sharing her sense of humor. In X, Hokuto somehow entered the dream of the comatose Kakyou Kuzuki, a dreamgazer for the Dragons of Earth. Kakyou was in despair because he saw the future in his dreams and was powerless to change it, but friendly and easy-going Hokuto reached out her hand and invited him to see the real world. Kakyou seems to have fallen for her charm, because she is described as the most important person in his life. But tragedy struck again for Kakyou, and yet again, he was unable to stop it from happening. In his dreams, he witnessed Hokuto's death but could not prevent it. Kakyou was too weak and frail to save her; even if she'd got there in time, it was all an illusion in his dreams. Hokuto's smile and open, inviting arms kept him going. When she was gone, Kakyou's wish was to die and meet her in heaven, The time that Hokuto and Kakyou spent together was short, but in the end, they did find peace together.
