SUBARU & HOKUTO
-------------------------

Both Subaru and Hokuto-chan are offsprings of the powerful and affluent onmyoujitsu clan, the Sumeragi clan. Due to early deaths of their blood parents, the siblings were only left with their protective grandmother, Lady Sumeragi, and each other...

Twin Stars
Hokuto has always been the older sister dominating the household, exhibiting an almost maternal-like instinct on his dear twin brother, always looking out for him and doing everything for him from the cooking to the fashion management. ^_^ As the younger or more consenting one of the two, Subaru knows well that his sister cares a great deal about him and willingly leaves all the daily necessities to her skilful hands. She needs Hokuto's protective nature to comfort him or reassure him at times when he's feeling insecure or depressed. Throughout TB, we see that it is Hokuto-chan who brings light into Su-chan's life with her humorous jokes, smiles and ringing laughter. Hokuto, with his male friend Seishirou-san, has added meaning and depth into his life, and nee-san is always there to cheer him up when Subaru needs a shoulder to cry on. Despite Hokuto's frivolity, Subaru is subconsciously aware of the fact that Hokuto is more mature one and feels safe on involving her with his onmyoujitsu affairs and constantly asking for her advice. Subaru might seem vexed at times by her twin's over-hyperactive attitude and tendency to tease his relationship with Seishirou, nevertheless he understands that deep down, Hokuto is very supportive of his romance with Seishirou and will go to great lengths to ensure they remain lovers. Hokuto-chan, on the other hand, has an "obsession" over Subaru and Seishirou's relationship, and is always making jokes about the two getting married and becoming Sei-chan's sister-in-law. Of course, gaining Hokuto's ecstatic approval and support pays off for Lady Sumeragi's disapproval over his "scandalous affair" with Sei-chan.

Light of my Life
Without the presence of the commanding Hokuto, Subaru's spirit would probably collaps under the pressure and demands he exerts on his own life. Being the Sumeragi head and an onmyouji, he's very involved in the clan's affairs but sometimes can be worn out by his work. It is Hokuto who stays by his side and warns him not to put excess strain on his life. Given the vulnerability of his heart, Subaru tends to put others before himself and feels extremely guilty when others are hurt or when he does not fulfil the requirements which are demanded of him. He has a tendency to bear other's suffering, which will inevitably crush his soul had not Hokuto rescue him many times from this consequence. In turn, Subaru often heed to Hokuto-chan's good advice, respecting and loving her for the continuous support she gives to him. If Seishirou-san fails to make Subaru happy, Hokuto always succeed in lifting his spirit by slipping in the odd comments about their romance, which would indisputably send poor Subaru-kun into a frantic rage of blushing and stammering.

Though always sunny and cheerful, Hokuto-chan is no less selfess than Subaru and made the ultimate sacrifice of her life to save Subaru from the Sakurazukamori (Seishirou-san). When the horrifying truth about Seishirou's identity was revealed, he'd attempted to kill Subaru but with no avail. Being the logical and practical Hokuto-chan, she dressd up in his brother's traditional robes and went in search of Seishirou, paying the ultimate price for her heralded martyrdom. The loss of Hokuto-chan was both saddening and traumatising, and seemed to have trigger an irreversible change in Subaru's personality. Hokuto's death was a turning point in his life, transforming his friendly and kind-hearted nature to that of a cold and indifferent one. Subaru was no longer warm and enthusiastic, instead he was even more withdrawn and reserved than ever, prefering to stay on his own.

And Ever After...
The Subaru in X is extremely different to the Su-chan in Tokyo Babylon, due to the fact of his sister's death, which caused him to hunt down Seishirou as the duo face their final challenge and confrontation in the apocalyptic year of 1999. Hokuto's self-giving nature was never revealed until the end, when it was shown that the tremendous amount of love and affection she'd had for his brother could lead to her commiting a terrible crime -against herself. Hoping to save Subaru from oblivion, she'd probably hoped for Subaru to move on - but instead her death shattered Subaru's heart into a million pieces and permenantly reformed his character.
