ABOUT THIS SITE -----------------------
Created: August 2001
genesis n. a beginning or origin; the first book of the Old Testament, telling the creation of the world; This site was initially created out of necessity and a profound obsession with Tokyo Babylon. Having learned and read about this series, I was shocked and surprised to find so few sites on the web dedicated to it, so I decided to make one myself. I started from scratch by handcoding the HTML (which I still do but with the help of Arachnophilia and Dreamweaver), wrote a bunch of essays and ramblings on the characters and made some very basic graphics for the earlier layouts. Before I got a hold of the artbook, large and high quality Tokyo Babylon scans were extremely hard to find. After a family friend gave it to me as a birthday gift, I immediately set out to scan it all and dump the images on this site. Anyway, it was a nice feeling to have all these lovely scans at my disposal. In the meantime, Leareth's scanlations really helped to deepen my insight into the characters. Unfortunately, her scanlation site shut down before I had time to go any further. Summer 2003: I gradually stopped working on this site, partly because I was losing concentration and partly due to school deadlines and upcoming exams. I left it untouched for literally a whole year with the same layout and content. At one point, I even thought about giving up on this site because online projects are so hard to manage sometimes, but all the guestbook entries really cheered me up on this and I decided not to. In fact, this site probably wouldn't be around today if it weren't for the visitors. To this day, I still have pretty much the same objective: to inform more people about this wonderful shounen-ai series and to share with the world something I've come to love for the past three years. "Tokyo Babylon" differs from most anime and manga out there, in that it is as real as it is fictitious. This is one of the stories that reveal the most about Japanese culture and customs. Not only does it have romance, comedy and action, it's a real eye-opener into the country where anime and manga originate. |
